Biography

Mr. DuVall will discuss the various manifestations of civilian-based nonviolent action in the world today, from Nepal to Belarus to Papua to the streets of Los Angeles, in order to distinguish when it's "people power" or when it's just protest -- and to answer criticisms of it, particularly in the form of the "colored revolutions".

Jack DuVall is the founding Director of the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict. He was the Executive Producer of the two-part Emmy-nominated PBS television series, "A Force More Powerful," and co-author of the companion book of the same name (Palgrave/St. Martin's Press 2001). Mr. Jack DuVall is also a veteran television executive and writer. For 16 years he developed, marketed, executive-produced, and promoted non-fiction television programming, with clients including the Turner Broadcasting System, The Learning Channel, KCET/Los Angeles, the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, and over 30 other commercial television and non-profit organizations.

Acting as a catalyst to stimulate the choice of nonviolent conflict, the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict collaborates with likeminded institutions, nongovernmental organizations to: educate the global public to promote the history and ideas of nonviolent conflict in open or closed societies where rights or self-determination are at issue; influence policies and media coverage; and educate activists.
